Propolis

While I don’t put much stock in the health benefits of propolis, I do find it a fascinating substance.  Made from resins collected around the farm the substance is fragrant, pliable, and shimmers like gold (this will vary).  Bees use propolis to seal small gaps, preserve wood, and whenever it is more appropriate than wax as a building material.

I collected the propolis bees applied to their upper inner cover.  Apparently it was too drafty for their taste.  I plan on trying to mix the propolis with linseed in a manner similar to shellac (another insect product).
