Aronia Aronia melanocarpa


  Aronia is an extremely cold hardy superfruit rich in anthocyanins, imparting the dark coloration and lending to the name.  Aronia can be used in the same ways that the tropical fruit Acai can be used without using fuel to import the fruit or impacting tropical forests or economies.

Harvest window:  ~Mid August-Early September

Planting window:  Early Spring or Late Fall

Cultivation method:  Well Drained Soil, wide pH range

Propagation method: seed, cuttings, or layering

Recipe:  Aronia Milkshake:   Mix Vanilla or Chocolate Ice Cream, 1/4 cup aronia berries (dried or fresh), 1/2 cup milk, 1/8 cup walnuts, and blend to desired consistency.
